Divinity Original Sin 2: Verdict

Divinity Original Sin 2 isn’t just a great RPG, it doesn’t feel like any other game in the genre. Few other RPGs allow such a wide range of flexibility while also supporting rewarding combat and a powerful story; in fact, none do. Divinity Original Sin 2 will be remembered as one of the greats, and it deserves to be played by anyone who enjoys fantasy or RPG games.

Best Games for Mac right now

Divinity: Original Sin 2’s carefully crafted combat system is easily one of the game’s biggest highlights. Though it plays similarly to other RPGs, with turn-based fighting and character builds focused on specific abilities, Divinity: Original Sin 2 elevates the genre by offering the freedom to tackle challenges however you want. You can stealth your way past enemies or fight them head-on, snipe them from afar, cast spells on foes before laying into them with a giant flaming hammer–you name it.

Divinity Original Sin 2 Verdict
Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a game that rewards tacticians and explorers alike, yet neither of them will care at the end of the day if they’re not having fun. Few other games can make such a claim.

While the original Divinity Original Sin was technically impressive, it wasn’t exactly what you’d call polished. Graphics were sometimes janky, the controls had issues and some of its systems didn’t gel together as well as they could have. These issues are mostly ironed out in Divinity: Original Sin 2, which really is a beauty to behold.

Divinity Original Sin 2 – Gameplay, Characters, Graphics and storyline

If you’re looking at Divinity Original Sin 2 review, the first thing you need to know is that it’s not a starter game. This is not your typical RPG at all, unless you're used to old classics like Baldur's Gate. It's for more sophisticated gamers who are looking for depth of gameplay experience with all the little details taken care of.

Fantasy RPGs have a rich history in video games, and the latest addition to the genre shows just how far the genre has come. Divinity Original Sin 2 is a massive step up from its predecessor in nearly every way. Not only does it add in much-requested features such as co-op multiplayer and a new story, but it also improves many aspects of the core gameplay.

The improved AI is very helpful if you plan to take advantage of fighting alongside your companions or against them, and being able to customise their skills and abilities makes controlling and creating several unique characters (because you can also change their appearance).

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is now available, and comes fully equipped with a myriad of new features that polish what’s already a brilliant RPG. As you explore the vast stretches of Rivellon, you’ll experience engaging party mechanics, top notch strategic combat, loads to do and equally as much to see – all this wrapped up by a masterfully-crafted story featuring a set of colorful characters who will truly make this a journey worth taking.

If you have a console that can do it justice, you’ll benefit from the beautiful HDR lighting, which tends to impact scenes in dramatic ways during scripted scenes. While Divinity is certainly playable on standard Xbox One and PS4, the experience really shines on Microsoft’s latest hardware.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 has a lot going for it. There’s a big, explorable world. There’s flexibility in both combat and character development. There’s a large number of quests to tackle and decisions to make, from how your characters interact with each other to the origin stories that explain their abilities. Through it all, Divinity II is easy to pick up and hard to put down—just as long as you don’t mind some fiddly controls on consoles. Even then, the Definitive Edition on Xbox One comes highly recommended.

It gives players an absurd amount of things to do, from the main story and the standalone quests that flesh out the backstory of its world to simply exploring and solving puzzles. The core combat, however, is what truly sets Divinity: Original Sin 2 apart. With a host of creative spells and abilities and an excellent skills and progression system in place, it’s a treat to play with friends or on your own. Although the console version’s controls can be fiddly when organizing your inventory with a controller, it’s otherwise has an good Quality Control.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is big. That’s not what I mean to say, but Divinity: Original Sin 2 is good. It’s good in the same way that tactical RPGs didn’t ever really need to supersede their predecessors, like the original Divine Divinity or even one of its successor games (Beyond Divinity). The story is well-written and engaging, the combat turns every encounter into a puzzle, and the sheer amount of choice involved in building your character is staggering. The arena mode lets you test your skills against anyone around the world in one-to-four player fights which are quick to jump into, but can last for hours if you’re trying to climb up the leaderboard.

Occasionally those encounters escalate into one of Divinity 2’s incredibly deep and tactical fights. Each character has a few abilities mapped to the four face buttons, with a number of other skills which need to be combined to make them stronger. There are a huge number of options for each fight – group up and attack, spread out and keep your distance, move back towards your support characters, cast a shield around you all to soak up some damage – and it really comes down to how creative you can be against someone else who is just as likely reading this review.

I’m not sure why Divinity: Original Sin 2 on consoles even needed a Definitive Edition. I think I missed the memo. It might have had something to do with console players being confused by what was, at times, a pretty complex game with a lot of moving parts. Out of an abundance of caution though Larian Studios has released what amounts to the enhanced edition, the version that should have been out on consoles from the get-go.

There are lots of new story content, big improvements to the single-player campaign, LAN party options, small quality of life improvements to many of the game’s systems, and a very fast way to get in touch with other players online. I’m impressed at how well everything has come together.

It’s still complex and occasionally obtuse, but it’s hard not to fall in love with its core ideas and characters.

The incredibly engaging narrative, robust combat, and solid RPG systems manage to elevate the overall experience above its flaws. The cooperative play was a long time coming, and now that it’s here it’s hard not to recommend Divinity: Original Sin 2 to everyone that I know. It’s a shame that the technical problems get in the way of an otherwise stellar title.

It has a glaring omission or two in its character creation and customization. Its story stalls out before the credits roll. Its difficulty curve is uneven as well, perhaps as an acknowledgement to those who played it after completing Divinity: Original Sin 1 that they wouldn’t have to endure being under-leveled for too long. And that’s just scratching the surface of all of its flaws, but none of them stand higher than a molehill compared to the mountain of greatness. If you’re a fan of classic PC RPGs, than this is the game for you.

In fact, I’d go as far as to say it’s my favorite role-playing game of all time. That said, there is a lot going on with Divinity: Original Sin 2 , and it’s not always easy to pick out the most important features from a sea of complex stats and abilities.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a crowning achievement in video game writing, and is one of the best RPGs around right now. With its compelling combat, excellent pacing, and brilliant story, I’m confident it will go down as an RPG classic. If you played Divinity: Original Sin 1 on PC already, there’s no reason not to upgrade to this version. But if you’re curious about RPGs in general, or just don’t own a high-end gaming PC, this is the version you should get.
